Bio

Where do you visualize your character fitting in to the post-war wizarding world? What do they do? Draco got off rather light at the end of the war. One of the main efforts of the rebirthed Ministry of Magic is to revamp the way in which criminals are rehabilitated, Since Draco was only seventeen when the war ended, never actually murdered anyone, and theoretically was coerced to do Voldemort's bidding through threats to his family, he was sentenced to work in Ollivander's wand shop for a year instead of being sent to prison. Many of the lowest-level members of Voldemort's cabal have been sentenced similarly, in hopes that they will be able to incorporate themselves into mainstream wizarding society. Lucius, however, is in prison. Narcissa and Draco live in a small but elegantly furnished house in London, as the Ministry seized their manor as the last place that Voldemort had been living. They are under close surveillance.

Does your character have any hopes, motivations, dreams or desires? Draco would like very much to have a normal life. His schooling was more or less ruined by his involvement with Voldemort, which he very much regrets. He doesn't fit in with those who opposed Voldemort now, but nor does he fit in with those who supported him. He's lost a lot of the clout he once had because of his family name, and would like to regain some respect within the community eventually.

What are some struggles your character might undergo? Draco is currently in a pretty severe state of self-dislike, something not new to him. He's angry that he was not able to summon enough gumption to get himself and his mother away from Voldemort while they might have had a chance to go undercover, and now that he is working at the wand shop he's embarrassed at being seen as a common criminal. Even worse, he feels deeply ashamed of having had his life saved twice by Harry, Ron and Hermione during the final conflict.

What are any existing personal relationships that your character might have? Draco lives with his mother, who is so thankful that they both lived through the war that she has mellowed a little. His main confidante is Pansy Parkinson, with whom he's reached a deep, trusting friendship that he really never managed with Crabbe or Goyle. He hasn't been in contact with Goyle since they were both quite traumatized by watching Crabbe burn to death, and is a bit of a castaway from his other Slytherin schoolmates due to his apparent failure to desert the school during the final conflict.

What's a secret that your character has that he or she has never told anyone? His biggest shame isn't that he's working retail in the wand shop, but that he's actually rather enjoying it. The shop gives him the chance to be creative, be necessary, and most importantly of all, to be different from Lucius. He knows that if events had followed their natural progression, he probably would have wound up as another faceless worker in the Ministry, and he's secretly thankful that this did not happen.

Roleplay Sample: The little silver bell that hung above the shop's front door tingled wildly as someone yanked it open. Draco got up from his work table, brushed wood chips irritably out of his hair, and yanked off his eyepiece. Ollivander had gone for lunch, admonishing him to attempt to catch up. He was behind on orders, had needed to take an entire chunk of the morning to repair the wood lathe, and was not in the most pleasant of moods to deal with customers.

Journal Entry: Sometimes during the day, bloody counting to ten is all I can do to keep from screaming my lungs out. I didn't have a spare moment to sit down this afternoon. So many of the mudbl the Muggle-borns who had their wands seized during the conflict are just now coming in to get them replaced - compensated by the newer, kindlier Ministry, of course. We're majorly behind on orders and there's not a phoenix feather to be had in all London. If only Father could see me now (well, maybe not). There has never been a Malfoy working in customer service before, and the fact that I am essentially ensconced in indentured servitude with someone who used to be locked in his basement doesn't exactly make my position more respectable.

Had a bloke in this morning attempting to sell me bogus unicorn hair - ha! I didn't recognize him; if he'd been from around here he would have known better. It did give me a nice chance to try out that experimental coigue-wood wand I'd made from the South American wood shipment Ollivander took a few weeks ago. Turns out that it definitely needs more fine tuning. He had hypothesized that a wand made from the coigue tree would have a tremendous amount of "punch," but I definitely didn't expect the chap's arms to come off like that. On the plus side, he probably won't try it again.

Is there a canon dialogue you feel best represents your character? If so, what is it? :
"When you say you have lots in common," said Ron, sounding rather amused now, do you mean he lives in an S-bend, too?"
"No," said Myrtle defiantly, her voice echoing loudly around the old tiled bathroom. "I mean he's sensitive, people bully him, too, and he feels lonely and hasn't got anybody to talk to, and he's not afraid to show his feelings and cry!"
Draco's not exactly the crying type, but he's been playing up his image as a bully for so long that's he's utterly exhausted. But having got into the routine of being standoffish and self-aggrandizing to everyone he comes in contact with, he's having a rather difficult time breaking his own mold.

None of it belongs to me, guys, and I'm certainly not Alex Band. All for entertainment purposes.
